To maintain long lasting jewels, follow these care tips:
Brass:
Can naturally patina (or antique) over time. To refresh, gently clean with a polishing cloth or steel wool. Brass is a harder metal than silver or gold-filled - and therefore can be cleaned using dishsoap or a jewelry cleaning solution.
Brass can react with different PH levels on the skin. We recommend removing any brass jewelry when exercising or sweating. In some cases, brass can be painted with clear nail polish, to create a barrier between the jewelry and skin which will preserve the patina and also limit contact.
Store in a dry place to avoid humidity accelerating the antiquing process.
Vermeil (Gold Plated over .925 Sterling Silver):
Avoid wearing in water or shower.
Vermeil is either 18 or 24K gold plated over sterling silver and while it will not tarnish, contant or extended exposure to water will accelerate the rate that the gold wears to silver. In addition, certain shampoos and soaps can accelerate the tarnishing process, or cause damage to stones.
Store in a safe place to avoid tangles or damage to chains and charms.
Gold Filled:
For added shine, polish with a soft polishing cloth.
Safe to wear in the water or shower but we recommend limiting this whenever possible.
Store in a safe place to avoid tangles or damage to chains and charms.
Sterling:
Sterling silver will naturally darken (tarnish) over time, but will never rust or change color.
To shine or clean sterling silver, polish with a fabric silver cloth, or polishing pad.
Safe to wear in water or shower but we recommend limiting this whenever possible, as certain shampoos and soaps can accelerate the tarnishing process, or cause damage to stones.
Store in a dry place to avoid any humidity tarnishing the silver faster (also for added shine-longevity, you can keep it in a tarnish resistant box or use a silica pack/tarnish strip in the bottom of your jewelry box).
Gemstones:
Gems vary in hardness and durability, but we always strive to use the highest quality stones, and set them in ways that will ensure they last and are protected, however it is still best to use caution and remember gems are delicate. To clean, you can use a polishing cloth or mild jewelry cleaning solution and to preserve the life and quality of your gemstone jewelry, remove to shower, swim or when doing activities that can compromise the stone (ie: doing dishes). Some chemicals like perfumes, harsh soaps or cleaners can actually wear away certain stones (like Labradorite) or alter the color (Opals or Quartz), so we recommend taking a little extra precaution with your gemstone pieces.
